Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson will miss the final four games of the Premier League season with a knee injury.

Jordan Henderson will miss the remainder of the Premier League season with a knee injury sustained against Brighton, but Jurgen Klopp is "pretty positive" the Liverpool captain will be fit for the start of next season.

The England international was forced off after a second-half collision with fellow midfielder Yves Bissouma during the 3-1 Premier League victory at the Amex Stadium on Wednesday.

Henderson underwent a scan on the injury and will miss the club's final four league fixtures as champions, but Klopp described the assessment as "the best possible of all bad news", with no surgery required.

"Hendo is the best possible of all bad news," Klopp said. "A knee injury but no surgery needed and he won't play any more in the later stages of this season. I am pretty positive that he will start new season with us.

"We were all concerned when we saw him in the moment going down and when he left the pitch.

"Yesterday when we got the news it was a big relief for all of us. It is not cool obviously but is the best [news] we could get. He's a quick healer and will be back soon."

Klopp confirmed Henderson would lift the Premier League trophy when they are presented with it after their final home league fixture of the season against Chelsea on July 22.

"It was an awful moment when Hendo went down," Klopp added.

"In Germany we would say he's an animal - he fights with everything.

"Everyone felt for him. He deserves to lift the trophy and he will lift the trophy."

Meanwhile, Klopp expressed his surprise at the three penalty decisions made during Thursday's top-flight fixtures, including one given against Aston Villa in their defeat to Manchester United, with the Premier League later revealing they were all incorrect.

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith says the first goal against Manchester United was the decisive moment in the match, and Smith was left fuming by the decision to give the penalty

Asked if he was concerned about VAR not overruling referees, he said: "I can 100 per cent understand that Dean Smith is really struggling to accept what happened last night. I don't know how it can happen.

"In the end it should be the right decision. What I don't understand is that overruling is so complicated because it must be a 'clear and obvious' mistake. I thought they were all obvious [decisions to overrule]."

Liverpool continue their pursuit of overhauling Manchester City's record points tally of 100 in a Premier League season against Burnley, who are targeting Europa League qualification, at Anfield on Saturday.

Last season's meeting between the two clubs at Turf Moor saw Sadio Mane display his frustration with team-mate Mohamed Salah for not passing when he was better placed to score during the 3-0 victory.

Asked for his assessment of the relationship between Mane and Salah, Klopp replied: "I am not sure there is competition but it is all healthy. They want to score goals, that is completely normal."
