Liverpool Women have made a Deadline Day move to sign goalkeeper Rylee Foster, while Bristol City and Brighton have also added to their squads.

Foster, 21, joins the WSL club after finishing her career in the American college system with West Virginia University.

The Canada U20 international played 84 times during four years at West Virginia, keeping 39 clean sheets, and was named on the MAC Hermann Trophy long list for the most outstanding college player of the year in two successive years.

She joins three days after Liverpool 'keeper Fran Kitching suffered a serious cut to the head and face during a training session.

Foster, who is a Liverpool fan and has a 'You'll Never Walk Alone' tattoo on her arm, said: "It's been a dream for me to play for Liverpool since I was a young kid.

"To be able to start my professional career and be in Liverpool - this was the ultimate goal for me so to be able to start here is amazing.

"I'm going to come in, work hard and do everything I can to help out.

"I got the tattoo in 2014 after my grandmother passed away. My grandparents are both from Wavertree in Liverpool but moved away during the war. It's just a commemorative thing to show that they are always with me."

Liverpool manager Vicky Jepson added: "Rylee is a good signing for us. It's about signing a good quality goalkeeper that brings competition to our current squad. She's a fantastic fit for us for the future.

"We're glad to have such a young, talented individual join our squad that will add strength. She's settled in well and we're looking forward to seeing what she's capable of."

Bristol City Women have confirmed the signing of Australia international Chloe Logarzo from Sydney FC on a one-and-a-half-year deal.

The 25-year old, who won the W-League with Sydney last season, has played 41 times for her country, scoring seven goals.

Lozargo was named Sydney FC Player of the Year in 2018 and a year later won her second W-League title, getting on the scoresheet in Sydney's 4-2 victory over Perth in the 2019 W-League Grand Final.

Arsenal, fresh from their 4-1 home defeat to title rivals Chelsea at the weekend, are in talks to sign Australia forward Caitlin Foord.

Negotiations have been going on for most of the winter window and the 25-year old has already said goodbye to her Sydney FC team-mates.

Brighton and Hove Albion left it late before completing a double move for Republic of Ireland striker Rianna Jarrett and Netherlands U23 winger Maxime Bennink.

Jarrett, 25, joins on a six-month contract, subject to international clearance, following a five-year spell with Wexford Youths.

Bennink, meanwhile, has signed on loan from Reading for the rest of the season.

Jarrett was named the Women's National League Player of the Season in 2018 and 2019 and scored her first senior international goal in October during the Republic of Ireland's 3-2 win over Ukraine in a Euro 2021 qualifier.

"It is great news that we have managed to bring Rianna to the club, as she is someone who will bolster our forward options," said manager Hope Powell.

"We have kept a close eye on her progress in Ireland, and I know she was very keen to come over to England and prove herself in the Women's Super League."

Bennink began her career at FC Twente and played twice for them as they claimed the Dutch title in 2016.

She then joined PEC Zwolle where she spent three seasons, before making the switch to Reading in August 2019.

Powell said: "We are delighted to welcome Maxime to the club, as she is a player that we've closely monitored in recent months.

"One of our main priorities during this January window was to strengthen our existing attacking options, and we have been able to do that with the addition of Maxime.

"She is a young and direct player that will add to the competition for places in those areas, and we are very much looking forward to working with her in the months ahead."

WSL Deadline Day done deals

Rylee Foster - West Virginia University to Liverpool, free

Chloe Logarzo - Sydney FC to Bristol City, undisclosed

Sophie Harris - Brighton to Lewes, season-long loan

Ellie Fletcher - Liverpool to Blackburn, free

Rianna Jarrett - Wexford Youths to Brighton, free

Maxime Bennink - Reading to Brighton, season-long loan

WSL Deadline Day explained

Deadline Day in the WSL has been quieter than many football fans are used to seeing in the men's game, mainly due to tighter budgets and better financial planning.

New FIFA research shows more than 86 per cent of international deals involve players that are out of contract and just £551,000 was spent on transfer fees between clubs around the world in 2019.

Deals including a fee are less common in the women's game, players tend to move when out of contract and transfers are usually planned weeks, if not months, in advance so teams don't go over budget.
