David Prutton's EFL predictions

Prutton's Predictions

David Prutton returns with his Sky Bet EFL predictions ahead of this weekend's fixtures, but who is he tipping for victory? Find out here...

Middlesbrough v Millwall, Saturday 5.30pm - Live on Sky Sports Football

How will Millwall react to that defeat against Fulham? The Lions hadn't been beaten in a long time and they started that game very well, but eventually succumbed to the quality of their opposition in the second half.

Middlesbrough have already got one foot in the play-offs but they'll want to get the job done at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday evening. I think it will be a tight game, but I'm backing Boro here.

Prutton predicts: 2-1 with Daniel Ayala to score first (60/1 with Sky Bet)

Aston Villa v Derby, Saturday 3pm

Derby had lost three on the spin before their midweek win over Cardiff, which shows how brilliantly they did to rally and claim all three points. It was a massive result in their play-off pursuit.

Aston Villa's chances of automatic promotion are slim but all they can do is keep winning and hope the sides above them slip up. Either way, Steve Bruce will want them to continue their momentum and I think they'll sneak the win.

Prutton predicts: 1-0 (6/1 with Sky Bet)

Barnsley v Brentford, Saturday 3pm

Brentford would have been gutted to see Derby come back to win in midweek because it was a real blow to their hopes of reaching the play-offs.

The Bees need to win both their remaining games to have any chance of a top-six finish, and they come up against a Barnsley side who are fighting relegation but were utterly dismal in midweek at Nottingham Forest. Unless they improve dramatically this is a Bees victory for me.

Prutton predicts: 1-3 (12/1 with Sky Bet)

Burton v Bolton, Saturday 3pm

What a massive game this is down the bottom! Burton shouldn't even be in with a chance of survival, but somehow they managed to come from behind to beat Sunderland last week, making it two wins in a row to keep their hopes alive.

Bolton just don't look like winning at the moment and they'll slip below Burton and back into the bottom three if they lose at the Pirelli. I feel like this one will be a draw.

Prutton predicts: 2-2 (14/1 with Sky Bet)

Hull v Cardiff, Saturday 3pm

Hull have been in incredibly strange form lately, scoring 14 goals in their last four games but drawing 5-5 at Bristol City and losing 1-0 at home in that time!

This is a far tougher proposition for Cardiff than it would have been a couple of months ago, and you wonder how they'll react to that midweek collapse against Derby. This should be a high-scoring game that could go either way, but I fancy the Bluebirds to edge it.

Prutton predicts: 2-3 (22/1 with Sky Bet)

Walsall v Northampton, Saturday 3pm

Walsall have a game in hand on all the teams below them in the relegation battle, but that will mean very little if they're beaten by Northampton on Saturday.

The Cobblers have won their last two to give them a chance of survival and could climb out of the relegation zone if they make it three at the Bescot. It's a tough one to call, but I'm backing a narrow home win.

Prutton predicts: 1-0 (6/1 with Sky Bet)

Morecambe v Barnet, Saturday 3pm

Is the Great Escape still on? Barnet have picked up 10 points from their last five games to give themselves a chance, but they need to win on Saturday to give themselves a chance on the final day.

Morecambe are in a difficult position because they know a draw would be enough to ensure their survival. They missed a chance in midweek to guarantee it, and they'll be feeling the nerves for sure. I think the Bees will do enough to keep their fight going.

Prutton predicts: 0-2 (12/1 with Sky Bet)
