Pep Guardiola is considering a summer swoop for Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli, according to ex-Barcelona midfielder Xavi.

The 37-year-old, who tasted Champions League success with Barca, as well as World Cup glory with Spain, has described the Spurs midfielder "one of the best in Europe" and that his friend and former manager would like to bring him to Manchester City.

"I speak with Pep and I know he thinks it is important to sign English players.," Xavi told The Sun. "At the moment the best English player - and also one of the best in Europe - is Dele Alli. We are looking at a very special player.

"Technically he is the sort of player that Pep likes, the sort of player that suits the style of game that Pep likes to play.

I am sure Tottenham will not want to let him go but we know Manchester City have big resources.
